D'Oyly Carte Music Festival

14th, 15th & 16 June 2024

Once a year in summer the island will host the D'Oyly Carte Island Summer Concerts which will be three days of music, hospitality and entertainment all outside on the islands gardens to audiences of up to 1,000 guests.

Live music

It is difficult to appreciate the significance of this Victorian trio. In the 1890’s Sir Arthur Sullivan, Sir William Gilbert and Richard D’Oyly Carte were as famous, talented and celebrated as Adel, Ed Sheeran and Simon Cowell are today!

It is important to compliment a venue with so much music heritage with other music memorabilia from that time and we are delighted to confirm an agreement with Melvyn Tarran, the founder and owner of the Gilbert & Sullivan Museum, for D’Oyly Carte Island to house some of the most important pieces from this unique and invaluable collection.

Musical heritage

Arthur Sullivan's grand piano, bought for his American mistress, an oil painting of the magnificent dress from Pirates of Penzance painted by the well-know American artist James Montgomery Flagg and elaborate costumes from Savoy Theatre productions of Gilbert & Sullivan works are just a few items in this collection.

They will be displayed in the same ballroom used by Gilbert & Sullivan to write, create and perform those memorable intimate performances in the 1890’s.

A magnificent ballroom in a Grade 2 listed historic house with deep music traditions, invaluable music memorabilia, set on a private island 30 minutes from central London sets the scene.

Used by the greatest British musicians of their time and now hosting the best contemporary musicians of the day will deliver breath taking creativity and performances that will be shared with music lovers around the world using the latest streaming technology.

Musical heritage

In 1890 Richard & Helen D’Oyly Carte built a 13-bedroom boutique hotel on their private island on the Thames near Weybridge for guests of the Savoy Hotel and the Savoy Theatre to visit for weekends of food, drink and entertainment.

The likes of Sir Arthur Sullivan, WS Gilbert, Oscar Wilde, JM Barrie (Peter Pan) and many others visited the island. So popular were these music events that locals sat on the mainland riverbanks to enjoy the music being performed on the island.

In June 2024 D’Oyly Carte Island will embrace the islands history with a festival of food drink and entertainment.

  • Open D’Oyly Carte Island on14th, 15th & 16th June  between 10am and 10pm limited to 1,000 people a day.

D’Oyly Carte Intimate Concerts in Grand Ballroom

"A La Carte" is a miscellany of Gilbert & Sullivan favourites, linked by extracts from diary entries, correspondence, and contemporary reviews. The evening recounts the volatile creative partnership of William S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan, and their dealings with their theatrical impresario, Richard D’Oyly Carte, in both word and song.

Five D’Oyly Carte Opera Company performers, accompanied by a Sullivan’s Grand Piano, perform live from the ballroom of Eyot House on the exclusive D’Oyly Carte Island, West London.
